Graduated from the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos, UNAM, Alejandra Islas Caro has directed documentaries and series for cultural television. In 2006 she promoted the creation of the Festival de la Memoria in the state of Morelos, an event specialized in the promotion of Ibero-American documentary cinema. She is also co-founder of the Salvador Toscano Film Cooperative and the Mexican Documentary Filmmakers Association. She has combined her film work with teaching at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos. Among her most referenced works are: Iztacalco, campamento 2 de octubre about family settlements in search of land tenure regulation; Los demonios del edén, a film adaptation of Lydia Cacho’s investigative journalism book; El albergue about the Hermanos en el Camino compound, directed by human rights defender Alejandro Solalinde; and La luz y la fuerza, a chronicle about the movement of the Sindicato Mexicano de Electricistas after the disappearance of the company Luz y Fuerza del Centro.
